Overview
- A tipper lorry crashed through a bridge barrier on the M3 southbound at Junction 14 and fell onto Chestnut Avenue after being reported at 10:01pm on Tuesday 11 August.
- Emergency crews attended overnight and a man in his 20s who was in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, Hampshire Constabulary said.
- Recovery work is under way with a structural engineer on site and Chestnut Avenue closed between Nightingale Avenue and Falkland Road while the vehicle is removed.
- Police are finishing an on-scene collision investigation before handing the site to the local authority, which has warned extensive repairs will be needed and closures are likely to last for a significant time.
