Overview

  • On June 25, a lorry fire near Junction 13 on the M6 at Stafford prompted closures in both directions and left smoke drifting across carriageways.
  • Shortly before 7 am, an overturned vehicle blocked the M6 northbound between Junctions 27 and 28 near Standish and Leyland, causing more than six miles of queueing traffic.
  • These M6 disruptions follow a week of serious incidents on UK motorways, including a fatal multi-vehicle crash on the M4 near Swindon that killed a woman and a van collision on the M62 central reservation.
  • National Highways and local police have deployed traffic officers and emergency crews to implement diversions and manage congestion across the network.
  • Investigations by Wiltshire Police, West Midlands Fire Service and other agencies are ongoing, and authorities continue to appeal for witness reports and dashcam footage.
