  • Buffon died in Latisana of a cardiac arrest on November 25, according to his daughter Patricia, who said services will be private.
  • He guarded Milan’s goal from 1950 to 1960, winning five Serie A titles and forging a famed rivalry with Inter counterpart Giorgio Ghezzi.
  • His club career also featured spells at Genoa, Inter—where he was part of the 1962–63 title season—and Fiorentina before retiring in 1965.
  • For Italy he earned 15 caps, captained on five occasions, and took part in the 1962 World Cup in Chile.
  • Recognized among the era’s elite, he was selected alongside Lev Yashin for a FIFA All-Star side; he was nicknamed “Tenaglia,” married TV personality Edy Campagnoli in 1958, and was a distant relative of Gianluigi Buffon.
