Lookout in 2021 Opa-locka Gang Shooting Sentenced to Life in Prison.
24-year-old Davonte Barnes handed 23 concurrent life sentences for his key role in the deadly 2021 Memorial Day weekend gang shooting at a music hall in Opa-locka, Florida.
- Davonte Barnes served as a major participant in a 2021 Opa-locka gang shooting that left three people dead and 20 others injured.
- Barnes received 23 concurrent life sentences from a Miami-Dade circuit judge, following a conviction in September for three counts of second-degree murder and 20 counts of attempted second-degree murder.
- The fatal shooting occurred at the El Mula Banquet Hall and was reportedly the result of an escalating disagreement between two local gangs.
- According to prosecutors, gunfire broke out when members of Barnes' gang arrived at the banquet hall parking lot in three vehicles, arming themselves with high-powered rifles and firing into the departing crowd.
- The identities of three casualties have been released: Desmond Owens and Clayton Dillard III, both 26, and Shankquia Lechelle Peterson, 32. Another man was previously in custody, but the charges were dropped due to a procedural fault with his interrogation.
