Sewhani was a backseat passenger in an Uber when she exited the moving vehicle near Main Street, according to police reports.
After leaving the car, she was struck by another vehicle traveling eastbound, whose driver reportedly did not realize the collision occurred and left the scene.
The Uber driver remained at the scene and was not injured, while the NYPD continues its investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
All eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway were temporarily closed as authorities conducted their investigation.
