Lone Star Le Mans Resumes After Red Flag With Hanson Reinstated to Lead

Race control restored the pre-stop order after a safety-car fuel swap error.

Overview

  • After a 40-minute stoppage, pole-sitter Phil Hanson retook the overall lead for AF Corse Ferrari ahead of James Calado’s factory Ferrari and Laurens Vanthoor’s Penske Porsche.
  • Race director Eduardo Freitas said a planned safety-car fuel swap was misinterpreted, sending cars into the pits and prompting a red flag to restore the pre-incident order.
  • The mix-up had briefly put the No. 36 Alpine in front by staying out while most Hypercars pitted, with the No. 95 United Autosports McLaren jumping to third overall.
  • Green-flag running began at 2:49 p.m. local and lasted about six minutes before separate spins by Tom Gamble and Frederic Makowiecki into the barriers brought the safety car back out.
  • The No. 20 WRT BMW retired with a hybrid isolation problem, while LMGT3 is led by Darren Leung’s No. 95 McLaren from Ian James’s No. 27 Aston Martin and Tom van Rompuy’s No. 81 Corvette.
