Overview

• The only man to maintain an appeal out of 51 convictions, Husamettin Dogan will be retried October 6–9 at the Gard assize court in Nîmes, with proceedings opening Monday at 2 p.m.
• Unlike the first-instance trial of professional judges, this retrial will be heard by nine jurors and three magistrates over four days, with the court able to view video recordings and about 75 journalists accredited.
• Dogan contests both his guilt and his nine-year sentence, arguing he was deceived into believing the June 2019 encounter was a consensual libertine scenario.
• Principal instigator Dominique Pelicot, serving 20 years, is scheduled to testify Tuesday afternoon and maintains participants knew Gisèle Pelicot had been sedated.
• Gisèle Pelicot, 72, will attend the entire hearing and is slated to address the court Wednesday morning as a civil party.
