• Munich’s fire department says the incident occurred around 12:08 on Saturday at the Mittlere Isarkanal.
• The woman, 86, slipped down the bank and, because of a visual impairment, did not see the drop, managing to cling to a branch in the water.
• A young man from London, staying nearby for Oktoberfest, jumped into the canal and secured her.
• Police arrived first to support the rescuer, and together with firefighters they brought the woman ashore.
• She was transported to a Munich hospital, and authorities have not released details about her condition.
