London Underground Workers to Strike Over Pay Dispute
Transport for London warns of severe disruption from January 7 to 12 as workers protest 'unacceptable' 5% pay offer.
- London Underground workers, members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT), are set to strike for a week starting on January 7 in protest at a 5% pay offer.
- Transport for London (TfL) warns of little to no service between the evening of Sunday January 7 and the morning of Friday January 12.
- The strike is in response to what the RMT calls an 'unacceptable' pay offer and TfL's refusal to restore staff travel facilities and create a two-tier workforce.
- TfL has created a bonus pot of £13m for senior managers, while the commissioner took an 11% pay rise in 2023 taking his salary up to £395,000.
- Other London transportation services such as the London Overground, Elizabeth line, DLR, tram, bus and National Rail services are not expected to be affected by the strike.
