London Transport Strain Deepens After Jubilee Breakdown as Overground Windrush Line Shuts

TfL cites equipment failures on the Jubilee and a separate signalling fault on the Overground as engineers work to stabilise services.

Overview

  • Passengers on a Jubilee line train were trapped for up to three hours on Sept. 1 before being escorted along the tracks to Waterloo by staff and British Transport Police.
  • TfL said the incident involved a faulty train and an additional faulty train, apologised to affected customers, and distributed water during the evacuation.
  • Full Jubilee service was restored shortly before 9am on Sept. 2, but severe delays continued into the following day as the line recovered.
  • On Sept. 3, the entire Windrush line on London Overground was suspended due to a signalling system failure, causing fresh disruption for commuters.
  • The District and Mildmay lines, earlier part-suspended after a person fell ill at Gunnersbury, later reopened, and at least one passenger reported being charged a double fare after the Jubilee delays.
