London Police Renew Appeal as Mother and Newborn Remain Missing After Underpass Birth

The Met is seeking CCTV footage, local sightings, hospital reports, charity contacts to confirm the rough-sleeping mother and her newborn remain safe with medical care.

Overview

  • On July 30 a woman believed to be sleeping rough gave birth at about 8am in the Billet Road underpass in Walthamstow and was aided by a passerby until around 4pm.
  • The mother and her newborn were picked up by two individuals in a blue transit van and have not been seen since.
  • As of August 1 both are still missing with no confirmed sightings or hospital admissions reported.
  • PC Dan Cooper said officers are carrying out fast-paced enquiries, trawling CCTV, interviewing witnesses and liaising with hospitals and charities.
  • Authorities are urging anyone with relevant footage, sightings, hospital information or charity referrals to come forward so the pair can receive urgent medical attention.
