London Mayor Sadiq Khan Announces TfL Fare Freeze Until 2025
The move, costing £123 million, is seen as a pre-election stunt by critics and does not apply to Travelcards and season tickets.
- Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, has announced a freeze on single fares on the Transport for London network until March 2025, a move that will cost £123 million.
- The freeze applies to pay-as-you-go fares on London’s buses, tube, Docklands Light Railway and trams, and most within the city on London Overground and the Elizabeth line.
- Travelcards and season tickets will not be covered by the change, and the cost of a Travelcard will rise between 4.6% and 5.1% depending on the zones selected.
- Penalty fares for fare dodging will increase from £80 to £100 to increase its deterrent effect and in a bid to recoup more of the £130m a year lost due to people failing to pay.
- Conservatives on the London Assembly accused the Labour mayor of unveiling a pre-election stunt, with the mayoral election due in three months’ time.
