London Mayor Backs Export of Scrapped 4x4s to Ukraine
Sadiq Khan and Ben Wallace ask Transport Secretary to enable donation of vehicles through scrappage schemes.
- London Mayor Sadiq Khan has pledged to send 4x4s and other vehicles that would otherwise be scrapped under the Ulez scheme to Ukraine.
- Khan and former Defence Secretary Ben Wallace have asked Transport Secretary Mark Harper to enable people to donate suitable vehicles to Ukraine through scrappage schemes.
- Khan had previously blocked the export of non-compliant vehicles, citing legal reasons.
- The Ulez scrappage scheme, which came into force in August, allows Londoners with non-compliant vehicles to claim up to £2,000 when their vehicles are scrapped.
- Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, had previously written to Khan suggesting the idea as part of the scrappage scheme.
