Overview
- MPs will use bench-installed MMDs to record attendance via card, PIN or biometric verification from July 21 to August 21.
- The traditional lobby register remains in place during the Monsoon session to give MPs time to adapt to the electronic system.
- Ministers and the Leader of Opposition are exempt from marking attendance and continue to receive daily allowances.
- The initiative is part of Speaker Om Birla’s broader drive to modernize Parliament proceedings with paperless technology.
- Feedback collected during the Monsoon session will inform full implementation planned for the Winter session.
