Logitech Launches Signature Slim Solar+ K980, a Light-Powered Keyboard That Never Plugs In

Logi LightCharge harvests ambient light to keep a 10-year battery topped up without a charging port.

Overview

  • The K980 is on sale today for $99.99 in a universal model, with a $109.99 Business edition and a North America–only Mac layout also offered.
  • Logi LightCharge converts sunlight or artificial light as low as about 200 lux to power the keyboard, with operation for up to four months in complete darkness once fully charged.
  • Logitech claims the internal battery can last up to 10 years, and a spokesperson says it is user-replaceable with spare parts supplied by iFixit.
  • To maximize efficiency, the keyboard omits a USB charging port and wired mode, has no backlighting and few status LEDs, and uses a fixed typing angle without adjustable feet.
  • Features include a full-size scissor-switch layout, Easy-Switch pairing for up to three Bluetooth devices, Logi Options+ customization with Action and AI Launch keys, and enterprise support via a Logi Bolt USB-C receiver and Logitech Sync in the Business version.
