Lodha Brothers Locked in ₹5000-Crore Trademark Dispute Over Family Brand

Abhishek Lodha's Macrotech Developers has filed a lawsuit against Abhinandan Lodha's HoABL, alleging unauthorized use of the Lodha name, with the Bombay High Court set to hear the case on January 27.

Macrotech Developers, led by Abhishek Lodha, has filed a ₹5000-crore lawsuit against his younger brother’s firm, the House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL), over alleged misuse of the 'Lodha' brand name.
The dispute centers on a 2017 family settlement agreement that prohibited Abhinandan from using the Lodha name in real estate unless specific conditions were met, which Macrotech claims were violated.
Abhishek Lodha asserts that the Lodha brand has been built over four decades with significant investment, including ₹1,700 crore in branding efforts over the last decade, and commands substantial goodwill in the real estate market.
Abhinandan Lodha, who separated from the Lodha Group in 2015, refutes the claims, stating his company focuses on plotted developments in areas where Macrotech is not active and operates under distinct entities like Lodha Ventures and HoABL.
The Bombay High Court will hear the case on January 27, with Macrotech seeking a perpetual injunction to prevent HoABL from using the Lodha trademark and alleging fraudulent trademark registrations by the defendant.
