Overview
- The locomotive arrived in Stockton late Sunday morning to large crowds, paused for a 45-minute public viewing at Rochester Road, and was saluted by the 4th Regiment Royal Artillery.
- Overnight it crossed Darlington’s Skerne Bridge at about 1:10am, then stood alongside an LNER Azuma at Darlington Station after the East Coast Mainline was temporarily powered down.
- Across three days the replica hauled the wooden passenger carriage ‘Experiment’ and goods wagons from Shildon through Darlington to Stockton at around 5–10 mph with designated viewing points.
- Public turnout stretched into the tens of thousands across Shildon, Darlington and Stockton, with live streams, brass bands and community events drawing visitors from the UK and overseas.
- It is understood the engine was moved to be loaded onto a low-loader for return to Hopetown in Darlington for inspection and conservation ahead of a confirmed appearance at Hitachi’s factory open day.
