Overview

• Officers responded just after 11 p.m. Saturday to the 20900 block of Third Avenue and found a man who was pronounced dead at the scene.
• The shooting in the Multipurpose Center parking lot prompted a campus lockdown around 11:40 p.m. that was lifted about 2 a.m. Sunday.
• University officials said the victim was not a Virginia State University student.
• Authorities have withheld the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin.
• Officials urged anyone with information to contact VSU Police or Chesterfield County Police, or to submit tips through Crime Solvers and the P3 app.
