Local Billionaire Surprises UMass Boston Graduates with $1,000 Cash Gift

Quincy-based billionaire Rob Hale gave each of the 2,500 soon-to-be graduates at the University of Massachusetts Boston $1,000 just moments before they crossed the stage at their commencement ceremony.
Billionaire Robert Hale gave $1,000 in cash to each of the 2,500 graduates at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
UMass Boston graduates received a surprise gift of $1000 each during their graduation ceremony.
Each graduate received $500 for themselves and $500 to give to a family member, supporter, or local organization.
Hale had previously given $1000 to each graduating member of the Roxbury Community College class in May 2022.
