LNVG Finalizes Hansenetz Restructure, DB Regio to Operate RE2 From 2026

Unchanged schedules with existing double-deck trains will limit passenger disruptions; higher fees finance a second operator for added reliability.

Overview

  • From June 14, 2026, until late 2033 DB Regio will run the RE2 Regionalexpress line between Uelzen, Hannover and Göttingen under the finalized concession.
  • Metronom retains the northern Hansenetz services on RE3, RE4, RB31 and RB41 linking Hamburg, Lüneburg, Bremen and Hannover.
  • LNVG confirmed that timetables and the current double-deck rolling stock will remain unchanged to minimize disruptions for passengers.
  • Operator fees for the Hansenetz have been significantly increased to support the dual-operator model and ensure financial stability.
  • LNVG says adding DB Regio as a second provider will offer an extra resource for quickly addressing any future service interruptions.
