Lloyds Standardizes Shorter Branch Hours as UK Banks Press Ahead With October Closures

Banks say the shift to mobile banking justifies reduced counter service.

Overview

  • Effective September 29, Lloyds Banking Group introduced uniform reduced hours across all 757 Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches, with weekday openings at 9:30am and a 10:00am start on Wednesdays for staff training.
  • Many branches now close earlier on weekdays—typically 3:30pm or 4:30pm—and Saturday hours have been cut, with some sites shutting by early afternoon.
  • Multiple closures are scheduled through October 2025, with affected locations including Tooting, Southall, Kidderminster, Bury, Walthamstow and Edinburgh Corstorphine, alongside wider lists for NatWest and others.
  • Lloyds has confirmed a further 49 closures into 2026 as part of a broader plan to shut about 289 branches across 2025–26.
  • Banks are directing customers to mobile apps, Post Office counters, community Banking Hubs and more than 30,000 PayPoint deposit points, citing over 21 million Lloyds digital users as consumer groups flag access-to-cash concerns.
