Lloyds Group Shortens Hours at 757 Branches as October Closures Loom Across Major Banks

Consumer groups warn the shift could deepen access gaps for people who depend on in‑person banking.

Overview

  • Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches adopt reduced, standardised hours from today, with weekday openings moving to 9:30am (10:00am on Wednesdays) and closings set between 3:30pm and 4:30pm, cutting up to 90 minutes of counter time.
  • Beginning in October, 97 branches and 45 mobile banking services are scheduled to shut across NatWest, Halifax, Lloyds and Bank of Scotland.
  • The October tranche includes 27 Halifax closures, 32 Lloyds closures, 23 NatWest closures, and 15 Bank of Scotland branches, with Bank of Scotland also ending 17 mobile sites.
  • NatWest has published October closure dates for locations including Stratford-upon-Avon, Kettering, Leighton Buzzard, Paignton and Redditch.
  • Banks cite sustained migration to digital services, with Lloyds pointing to more than 21 million app users, while Which? notes 6,443 branch closures since 2015 and alternatives such as Post Office counters and banking hubs offer only partial replacements.
