Lloyds Begins Week of Five Branch Closures as 2026 Cutbacks Roll Out

The group says a rapid shift to app-based banking has reduced branch use.

Overview

  • Branches in Lewes (Jan 19), Swadlincote (Jan 20), and Hedge End, Penzance and Petersfield (Jan 21) are shutting.
  • Lloyds Banking Group plans 71 closures across Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland in 2026.
  • Halifax has closures scheduled on January 22 in Deal and Hastings, with further dates set later in the year.
  • A spokesperson says over 21 million customers now use its apps, and services remain available via banking hubs, the Post Office and more than 30,000 PayPoint locations.
  • Consumer group Which? counted 218 closures across Lloyds-related brands in 2025, and other major banks such as Santander, Barclays and NatWest are also shrinking branch networks.
