Lloyds Banking Group Sets 2026 Branch Cuts, Lists 24 January Closures

The group cites a move to app-based banking, promising alternatives via the Post Office, banking hubs, PayPoint.

Overview

  • The bank confirmed 40 Lloyds Bank sites and 15 Halifax locations will shut across 2026, with 16 Lloyds and 8 Halifax branches scheduled for January.
  • January closures include Lloyds branches in Alfreton and New Addington on 1 January and Hedon on 28 January, plus Halifax sites in Deal and Hastings on 22 January and Skipton on 26 January.
  • Lloyds says more than 21 million customers now use its apps, which it cites as the key reason for reducing in-person services.
  • Customers are directed to remaining Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland branches, the Post Office network, shared banking hubs, over 30,000 PayPoint locations, and new Community Bankers.
  • Staff at affected branches are being offered redeployment, with local concerns raised about access to face-to-face services for older and digitally excluded people.
