Lloyds Banking Group Confirms 71 Branch Closures for 2026 With Full Schedule

A detailed closure schedule arrives alongside Link's proposal for 11 new banking hubs to preserve face-to-face access.

Overview

  • Seventy-one sites across Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland will close in 2026, comprising 40 Lloyds branches, 14 Halifax locations and 17 Bank of Scotland sites.
  • Lloyds cites a sustained shift to digital banking, noting more than 21 million customers now use its apps to manage money.
  • Link has recommended 11 new shared banking hubs in response to the closures to support communities that need in-person services.
  • Customers are directed to use other group branches, the Post Office and banking hubs for everyday banking, with cash deposits available at over 30,000 PayPoint locations.
  • Since 2015, UK banks and building societies have shut 6,626 branches, removing 67% of the network, and since 2022 lenders must notify Link before closures under an industry process backed by voluntary funding for hubs from major banks.
