Liz Whitmer Gereghty Suspends NY Congressional Campaign, Endorses Mondaire Jones

Former Rep. Jones Gets Boost in Bid to Unseat GOP's Michael Lawler in 2024

Liz Whitmer Gereghty, sister of Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, has suspended her campaign for New York's 17th Congressional District, endorsing former representative Mondaire Jones.
Gereghty's decision helps clear the path for Jones to secure the Democratic nomination in a closely watched race against incumbent GOP House member Michael Lawler.
Jones previously represented much of the district from 2021 to 2022, but lost in a different district's primary in 2022 due to redistricting.
Lawler won the seat in a surprise victory during the 2020 midterms, but is expected to face a tough re-election fight next year.
Democrats view the district as one of their best opportunities for a pickup in 2024, as they aim to regain control of the House.
