Johnson won the speakership on October 25, with support from both conservative and moderate wings of the Republican party, despite the party's three weeks of disarray following the ousting of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Cheney had previously worked closely with Johnson in the House and said that although Johnson claims to be committed to defending the Constitution, she believes he failed to do so following the 2020 election.
