Overview
- British Transport Police were called at around 6.15am to reports of a trespasser near Newton-le-Willows and arrested a man on suspicion of trespass and obstruction of the railway.
- All lines between Huyton and Earlestown were temporarily closed to allow emergency services to work safely.
- Lines have reopened, with Northern and TransPennine Express services still experiencing cancellations and delays during the recovery period.
- Initial guidance warned of delays up to 35 minutes with disruption until 9am, later updated to delays up to 20 minutes with disruption expected until 11am.
- Replacement transport is in operation for affected routes, including Northern services between Manchester and Earlestown and TransPennine Express services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria via Lea Green and Newton-le-Willows.
