Liverpool Shoplifter Gets Nine Months for Biting John Lewis Guard in Candle Theft

Citing a prolific theft record alongside repeated refusals of probation support, the judge ordered a three-year store ban.

Overview

  • Liverpool Crown Court jailed Emily Williams, 25, for nine months for assaulting a security guard during a June 5 theft at the Liverpool ONE John Lewis.
  • She pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, theft and breaching bail, and was restrained from entering the store for three years.
  • CCTV shown in court captured her biting the guard’s left hand after shouting “I have HIV” and threatening to have the guard “battered,” causing bruising.
  • Court records detailed an indefinite prior ban from the store and 18 previous convictions for 29 offences as staff were instructed not to challenge her.
  • Judge Neil Flewitt KC referenced her drug addiction and refusals of probation help, and she has been held at HMP Styal since mid-August following a June 14 arrest.
