Liverpool Santa Dash Draws 9,000-Plus Runners as City Implements 18 Road Closures

The dash raises funds for eight local charities through participant fundraising.

Overview

  • Since launching in 2004 under race director Alan Rothwell, the event has grown to more than 9,000 registered this year after 8,556 took part last year.
  • The 5K starts at 9:30am from Pier Head, with the Mini Dash for under‑12s beginning on Castle Street at 11:00am.
  • Runners pass the Royal Albert Dock and finish outside Liverpool Town Hall, where stilt‑walking characters and “real” snow greet participants.
  • Eighteen roads are closed with rolling reopenings, traffic on The Strand is held from 9:25am, and Castle Street and James Street remain shut until the event ends.
  • Participants are encouraged to support eight local causes, including Alder Hey Children’s Charity, Claire House Children’s Hospice, the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, and the North West Air Ambulance.
