Liverpool Prepares £20 Million Kirkby Academy Overhaul

Planning approval is being readied under FSG’s wider build program with completion targeted for 2028.

Overview

  • Plans include a full-size indoor dome on the main pitch, conversion of the current artificial surface to grass, and a new stand for about 500 spectators.
  • Medical and sports-science facilities at the academy are set for significant upgrades, with the project described by director Alex Inglethorpe as a big statement.
  • Home fixtures for the U21s and U19s in the UEFA Youth League will be relocated during construction of the indoor facility.
  • About £2 million of preparatory work was completed this summer, adding floodlights, small-sided cages, a padbol court, and a skills area.
  • The investment reflects the academy’s growing role in performance and finances, with reports of more than £100m raised from graduates this summer and FSG’s infrastructure outlay reaching roughly £260m.
