Liverpool Plans £20 Million Kirkby Academy Overhaul by 2028

The club is filing plans shortly to recognize the academy’s growing impact.

Overview

  • Liverpool intends to submit a planning application in the coming weeks with a target completion date in 2028, according to reports.
  • The project includes a full-size indoor dome over the main pitch, conversion of an artificial surface to grass, a new stand for roughly 500 spectators, and upgraded medical and sports-science areas.
  • Construction of the indoor dome on the main pitch will temporarily displace home fixtures for the U21s and UEFA Youth League U19s.
  • Around £2 million of preparatory work was completed this summer, adding new floodlighting, small-sided cages, a padbol court, and a skills and athletic development area.
  • Academy director Alex Inglethorpe called the plan a big statement, with the timing linked to the academy’s strong on-field influence and substantial recent transfer income reported at about £100 million.
