Merseyside Police have informed Dooley's next of kin and are assisting Italian authorities in the investigation.
Liverpool players wore black armbands in tribute, and flowers were placed on Dooley's seat at the San Siro.
The club is providing support to other fans affected and is working with local police and the consulate.
