Live 19th Century Naval Bomb Discovered in Couple's Garden
The bomb, used as a garden ornament for decades, was safely detonated by a bomb disposal unit.
- A couple in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, had a live 64-pound naval bomb from the late 19th century in their garden, which they used as an ornament for decades.
- The bomb was discovered by a police officer who alerted the Ministry of Defence. The bomb disposal unit arrived the next day and confirmed the bomb was live, but with a minimal charge.
- The bomb was safely transported to a disused quarry, covered with five tonnes of sand, and detonated.
- The bomb was originally found more than a century ago by a local deliveryman, Pop Morris, who found it on a beach and transported it back home on his horse-drawn cart.
- The couple, Jeffrey and Sian Edwards, were saddened by the removal of the bomb, which they had painted red and used as a garden decoration since they moved into the house in 1982.
