Little Rock Daycare Owner Charged With Capital Murder in 8-Month-Old’s Death

A judge ordered Erin Sauls jailed without bail after her first court appearance.

Overview

  • Police say officers responded at 11:14 a.m. on Dec. 30 to Sauls’ home daycare at 33 Clifton Drive, where an 8-month-old was found unresponsive and later died at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
  • An arrest affidavit states Sauls told investigators she slammed the infant’s head on a hardwood floor multiple times while changing his diaper because she felt frustrated and had a headache.
  • Hospital scans showed a fractured skull with bleeding in the brain and eyes, and a doctor told police the injuries likely occurred after the child was dropped off that morning.
  • Sauls, 23, was arrested on Dec. 30 and pleaded not guilty to a capital murder charge during a Little Rock District Court hearing on Dec. 31.
  • Family members identified the victim as Elijah Flowerday, the son of Isaac Flowerday and Trinity Russell, and a GoFundMe was created to assist the family.
