Lithuania Restarts Processing at Belarus Border After Overnight Pause

Belarus’s border agency says both operating road crossings are handling traffic again following an unannounced stop.

Overview

  • By 9:00 Moscow time, movement had resumed with processing on both entry and exit, according to the State Border Committee of Belarus.
  • Only two of six road checkpoints on the Lithuania–Belarus frontier are currently open: Medininkai/Kamenny Log and Šalčininkai/Benyakoni.
  • Belarusian officials said Lithuania temporarily halted processing at those two crossings overnight without prior notice.
  • Queues on the Belarusian side reached 40 passenger cars, 1,510 trucks and three buses waiting to exit.
  • The overnight disruption followed Lithuania’s recent security measures over suspected contraband balloons, which also briefly halted operations at Vilnius airport.
