Lithuania Rejects Belarus Talks as Lukashenko Threatens to Seize Stranded Trucks

Vilnius shut two crossings after balloon incursions disrupted flights, with closures set through November.

Overview

  • Up to 1,200 Lithuanian trucks remain stuck in Belarus after the Oct. 29 border shutdown, and Lukashenko warned they could be confiscated.
  • Belarus refused a narrow corridor to let the vehicles leave and demanded a full reopening of the border.
  • Foreign minister Kestutis Budrys said he will not enter talks on terms set by Minsk and cited U.S. support after meetings in Washington.
  • Budrys indicated crossings would stay closed until the balloon flights stop and the stranded trucks are allowed to return.
  • State agency Belta said Lukashenko ordered negotiations and claimed Lithuania submitted proposals, while Russia’s Sergey Lavrov accused Baltic states of trying to provoke a move that could trigger NATO defenses.
