Overview
- The Detroit Lions announced seven captains for 2026: Jared Goff, Amon‑Ra St. Brown, Penei Sewell, Aidan Hutchinson, Alim McNeill, Jack Campbell and Jack Fox.
- Dan Campbell confirmed that Campbell, McNeill and Fox are first-time captains and said the choices were voted on and earned by teammates.
- Aidan Hutchinson praised Jack Campbell’s consistency and communication and identified him as the new voice of the linebacker room after Alex Anzalone left for Tampa Bay.
- Teammates and coaches say Alim McNeill looks recovered from his 2024 ACL tear and that his captaincy signals confidence in his return to form.
- The captain group is being framed as a short-term stabilizer for a defense the Lions will test in the Sept. 13 season opener against the New Orleans Saints at Ford Field.
