LinkedIn Sets Nov. 3 Start to Use Member Data for AI Training, Widens Microsoft Ad Sharing

A single privacy toggle lets members decline participation, preventing only future training.

Overview

  • Effective November 3, 2025, LinkedIn will use member profiles, work history, education, posts, and comments to train content‑generating AI models.
  • Data sharing with Microsoft and its affiliates will expand for personalized advertising in the United States and most other regions, excluding the EU, UK, and Switzerland.
  • Private messages are not included in AI training or in the expanded affiliate data‑sharing program.
  • Participation is enabled by default, and members can opt out via Settings > Data Privacy > Data for Generative AI improvement.
  • Opt‑outs do not remove data already used, and AI‑training coverage applies in the EU/EEA, UK, Switzerland, Canada, and Hong Kong, with separate controls for affiliate sharing under Advertising Data.
