Lineage Sues Solar Operator Over Boyle Heights Warehouse Fire

Lineage is seeking more than $1 billion after blaming a rooftop solar operator and its contractor for the June blaze.

Overview

  • Lineage filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Sept. 10 naming Altus Power (and its Los Palos subsidiary) and Pearce Services and seeking more than $1 billion in damages.
  • The company says the fire began on the building’s roof on June 17, burned for days, and allowed millions of pounds of refrigerated food to rot inside the 500,000-square-foot warehouse.
  • Cleanup has been declared complete: Lineage says it removed tens of millions of pounds of spoiled food and disinfected the site, and the South Coast Air Quality Management District confirmed the facility was cleared and power-washed.
  • Lineage’s complaint alleges specific technical failures, including more than 200 faulty electrical connectors, use of improvised 'jumper' connections, and claims that the array was re-energized against Lineage’s requests.
  • Altus/Los Palos and Pearce dispute the allegations and say Lineage, as the tenant-operator, is responsible for remediation; official investigations into the fire’s cause are ongoing and local officials have pursued regulatory and political follow-up.
