Linea Token Sells Off After Mega Airdrop and Exchange Listings

Delayed claims helped fuel selling pressure.

Overview

  • Linea completed a TGE and community airdrop of roughly 9.36 billion LINEA to about 749,000 wallets from a 72 billion supply, with unclaimed allocations reverting to the ecosystem fund after the Dec. 9 deadline.
  • Top exchanges including Binance, Bybit, OKX, and Bitget listed the token, which spiked to about $0.046 before dropping to roughly $0.023 as airdrop recipients sold.
  • Blockchain analysts reported the public claim contract was funded about 50 minutes late, creating an apparent advantage for exchange-linked recipients who could claim and sell earlier.
  • Linea runs as a ConsenSys-built zkEVM that uses ETH for gas and employs a dual-burn model that destroys 20% of net L2 fees as ETH and buys and burns LINEA with the remaining 80%, while offering no on-chain governance.
  • Network metrics hit record highs in activity and TVL led by Aave, as the upcoming Linea Ignition program plans to distribute 160 million tokens to DeFi users next week, a flow expected to add near-term supply.
