Overview

  • Vonn led the opening downhill training run in St. Moritz in 1:30.95, 0.59 seconds ahead of Norway’s Kajsa Vickhoff Lie, with Italy’s Sofia Goggia and France’s Laura Gauche tied for third.
  • She said she added about 12 pounds of muscle over the summer and feels “in possibly the best shape” of her life with no pain.
  • Her return follows a partial right-knee replacement with titanium implants and included a second-place World Cup super-G podium in Sun Valley last March, the oldest woman to reach a World Cup podium.
  • Aksel Lund Svindal has joined her coaching staff, and she says equipment issues are resolved after reverting to a trusted boot platform.
  • She is aiming to qualify for Milan-Cortina 2026 in downhill, super-G and the team combined, with two downhills Friday and Saturday and a super-G Sunday in St. Moritz serving as the first tests; training times indicate form but are not race results.
