• Magull’s depression began after the 2023 World Cup and deepened when her playing time and leadership role at Bayern Munich and with Germany diminished
• She revealed in a June 2025 podcast that her thoughts had grown so dark she would not have objected to dying
• In summer 2024 she self-admitted to a private clinic for intensive treatment, crediting the six-week stay with saving her life
• Upon leaving the clinic Magull returned to training and matches at Inter Milan and says she has regained her passion for football
• She retired from the German national team in March 2025 to focus on club football and life beyond sport and has criticized Germany’s shortage of intensive mental health care providers
