Overview
- A criminal fire that tore through Limoges town hall on 17 October caused the roof and belfry to collapse and left the 1883 building largely gutted.
- A Fondation du patrimoine crowdfunding page surpassed €1,007,700 from more than 9,000 donors as of 2 November to help finance reconstruction.
- The Ministère de la Culture published a provisional schedule calling for consolidation and a temporary cover by early 2027, main works from 2028, and completion around 2030–2031.
- Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced the building will be classified as a monument historique and the government said the State, together with public and private mécénat, will help cover restoration costs; the Assemblée nationale approved a temporary 75% tax credit for donations capped at €1,000.
- Authorities are still assessing the total bill for repairs and pursuing legal and political follow‑up to identify and sanction those responsible, with the multi‑year reconstruction likely to affect civic services and require continued public support.
