Lima to Launch Bypass Las Torres Trial Jan. 9 With Eastbound-Only Traffic

Daytime-only trials aim to relieve eastbound congestion during lighting installation.

Overview

  • Vehicles will be allowed to travel west to east from the Ramiro Prialé expressway toward Chosica between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. during the trial phase.
  • The new 1.4‑kilometer, six‑lane bypass is reported 92% to 96% complete as final works proceed.
  • City officials say full operation could cut typical trips from about 90 minutes to roughly 45 minutes for around two million residents of Lima Este.
  • A complete opening that includes the east‑to‑west direction is targeted for February, contingent on technical clearances and coordination with utilities such as Calidda.
  • The municipality transferred Tren de Lima rolling stock to the Transport Ministry, which will handle safety observations flagged by rail authorities, as the mayor rejected criticism from ex‑minister César Sandoval and highlighted work with the ATU and Proinversión.
