Overview
- The Gobierno Regional de Tacna formally asked Lima for 10 passenger cars and two EMD F40PH‑2 locomotives, and the Municipality of Lima held a working meeting to evaluate the request which took place Tuesday.
- No transfer has been approved and any reallocation will require Caltrain’s consent and a modification or addendum to the original transfer agreement.
- ProInversión was delegated expanded execution duties for the Lima–Chosica passenger project by the MTC in late August and will manage key contractual and mobilization decisions for that program.
- Five coaches and one locomotive have already been moved to Chosica for compatibility testing, creating competing operational uses for the same stored fleet in Lima’s Parque de La Muralla.
- Tacna frames its request as part of a larger plan to restore the Tacna–Arica line supported by an authorized technical dossier, and the outcome could speed regional rail restoration or complicate Lima–Chosica rollout depending on contractual and diplomatic steps.
