Lima Reopens Part of Nicolás Ayllón as Authorities Prepare for Oct. 2 Transport Strike

Officials promise full service on mass‑transit systems with a large police deployment to limit disruption.

Overview

  • ATU reopened three lanes on avenida Nicolás Ayllón between Manuel Echeandía and Geranios after six years, restoring private‑vehicle connectivity between San Luis and El Agustino while public transport keeps detours.
  • A second phase is scheduled this week to reopen five additional blocks between Circunvalación and Manuel Echeandía with five lanes, three toward central Lima and two toward Ate.
  • Work at the underground Circunvalación (E‑18) station of Line 2 continues with 93.8% progress, according to ATU.
  • Transport groups plan a strike on October 2 starting at 7:00 a.m., with organizers citing participation by roughly 120 to 250 companies and a march toward Congress from Puente Nuevo and other points.
  • The Interior Ministry says many gremios will not join, will activate Plan Amanecer Seguro from 4:30 a.m. with about 10,000 police, and the ATU reports the Metropolitano, complementary corridors, Metro Lines 1 and 2, and AeroDirecto will operate at full capacity.
