Lima Inflation Ends 2025 at 1.51%, Lowest in Eight Years

Falling electricity and household fuel costs contained prices despite rises in education, dining and transport.

  • INEI reported Lima Metropolitana’s 12‑month CPI at 1.51% for 2025, inside the BCRP’s 1%–3% target and below prior market expectations.
  • Energy services fell sharply, with residential electricity down 8.2%, piped natural gas down 10.4% and domestic LPG down 6.3%, easing overall inflation.
  • Education rose 4.03% and restaurants and hotels 2.70%, with private school and university tuitions and restaurant menus among the strongest upward contributors.
  • Selected foods showed outsized gains, including papaya (+40.2%), Chinese onion (+121.3%), ají amarillo (+105.3%) and mackerel (+41.2%).
  • December CPI increased 0.24%, lifted by a 6.22% jump in chicken and higher transport fares, while analysts expect 2026 inflation to edge closer to 2%.
