Lima Finalizes Road Closures and Transit Changes for Señor de los Milagros Processions

Authorities have set timed street closures, Metropolitano detours and health and security deployments to protect large crowds and ease city movement.

Overview

  • Municipal officials published finalized itineraries and progressive vehicle-closure plans for the second and third processions that start at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday 18 October and Monday 19 October, with reopening of streets tied to procession progress.
  • The Autoridad de Transporte Urbano (ATU) announced temporary Metropolitano station closures at Colmena, Jirón de la Unión, Tacna and Castilla and rerouted corridor services so commuters must use designated alternate stops and corridors.
  • EsSalud has deployed mobile medical posts, ambulances type II and III and STAE units to cover the routes, with teams placed near major hospitals that the procession will pass, such as Dos de Mayo and Guillermo Almenara.
  • Security plans call for more than a thousand Policía Nacional and serenazgo officers supported by video surveillance and drones to monitor the procession perimeter and manage crowd safety along avenues like Tacna and Abancay.
  • Arequipa’s Hermandad issued its own schedule and routes for 18–21 October, and officials in Lima urge residents and drivers to follow municipal, ATU and Hermandad updates and Nazarenas TV for live changes and alternate travel plans.
