Lima-Callao Shaken by 3.5 Quake, Fourth Reported This Week

Civil defense officials urged residents to review emergency plans following a light tremor with no significant damage.

  • The IGP recorded a magnitude 3.5 earthquake at 16:40 local time on December 6 with an epicenter 15 km west of Callao at a depth of 71 km.
  • Intensity was rated II–III on the Mercalli scale in Callao, and no major damage was reported in the coverage.
  • This was the fourth seismic event logged in the Lima-Callao area during the week, after December 2 quakes of 4.6 near Bellavista, 4.9 near Huaral, and 3.7 near Ricardo Palma.
  • Official report IGP/CENSIS/RS 2025-0793 listed the event’s coordinates at -12.03 latitude and -77.25 longitude along with magnitude, depth and intensity.
